What is Uniroid-HC Suppositories?
Uniroid-HC Suppositories are a rectal treatment used for the short term relief of symptoms associated with haemorrhoids (piles) in adults.
It is used to treat external haemorrhoids, helping to relieve pain, irritation and itching around the back passage (anus). It can also be used to treat internal haemorrhoids with the nozzle applicator provided.
Uniroid-HC Ointment contains two active ingredients: hydrocortisone and cinchocaine hydrochloride.
How Uniroid-HC works
Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that soothes and relieves irritation and inflammation of the skin, helping to reduce swelling, redness and itching.
Cinchocaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic that works by numbing the area where it is applied, providing effective relief from pain and discomfort.
Together, these ingredients provide targeted, short term relief of haemorrhoid symptoms while the affected area heals.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how to use this medicine.
The recommended dose:
Insert one suppository twice daily, in the morning and evening, and after each bowel movement. Remove the plastic packaging before use and insert gently into the anus. Only insert into your back passage
Do not use for longer than 7 days.
If you feel the effect of the medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, speak to your prescriber for advice.
Both suppositories and ointment can be used concurrently if necessary.
If you use more Uniroid-HC suppositories than you should
If you insert too many suppositories or accidentally swallow them:
- Tell your doctor, pharmacist or nearest hospital casualty department immediately.
- Take the carton and any remaining suppositories with you so that people can see what you have used or taken.
- Do this even if you feel well.
If you forget to use
If you forget to use a suppository, use it as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual. Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some of the side effects are temporary with continued treatment or disappeared when treatment is stopped.
Side Effects
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if the following side effect gets serious or lasts longer than a few days, or you notice any side effects not listed:
- Skin rash
- Thinning of the skin
Serious Side Effects
If you experience any of the following side effects contact your doctor as soon as possible. These are serious side effects and required medical attention immediately
If you have used this ointment for a long time, it is possible that you could get something called ‘adrenal suppression’. Signs include:
- Lack of appetite
- Pain in the
- Stomach
- Weight loss
- Feeling sick or being sick
- Lack of concentration
- A feeling of hunger
- Nervousness
- Fits
Visual disturbances have been reported with topical corticosteroid use. Symptoms of this are, blurred vision and other visual disturbances.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
Warning & Precautions
Do NOT use Uniroid-HC Ointment if you:
- are allergic to hydrocortisone, or to any other steroids
- are allergic to cinchocaine, or to any other local anaesthetics
- are allergic to any of the other ingredients (listed in section 6)
- have tuberculosis
- have any kind of skin infection (e.g. thrush of the back passage, viruses affecting the skin).
If any of the above apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the ointment if you:
- have had a bad reaction to this or similar products before
- are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
- are breast-feeding.
Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
Apply only to the back passage and the surrounding skin areas. Hydrocortisone can cause thinning and damage to the skin.
Do NOT cover the skin with bandages, plasters or any other dressing. However, it is safe to cover the skin with your clothes.
Adults and young people aged 16 years and over
Other Medicines and Conditions
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines obtained without a prescription, including herbal medicines.
Some medicines may increase the effects of Uniroid-HC, and your doctor may wish to monitor you carefully if you are taking them. This includes certain medicines used to treat HIV, such as ritonavir or cobicistat.
Uniroid-HC can affect the way some medicines work, and some medicines can also affect how Uniroid-HC works.

Storage
- Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the foil and on the carton after “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- Do not store above 25°C .Store in the original package.
- Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
