What is Nurofen for Children Orange 200ml used for?

Nurofen for Children Orange 200ml is a liquid pain relief and fever-reducing medicine containing ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is formulated in a strawberry-flavoured suspension that is suitable for use in babies and children aged from 3 months up to 12 years. The medicine helps relieve mild to moderate pain, reduce fever and high temperature, and alleviate symptoms associated with conditions such as headache, sore throat, toothache, earache, muscular pains, sprains or strains, and symptoms of cold and flu.

How does Nurofen for Children Orange 200ml work?

Nurofen for Children Orange 200ml works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, inflammation, and fever, acting as an analgesic (pain reliever), an anti-inflammatory, and a antipyretic (fever reducer).

Directions – How to use

Oral administration only. Use the measuring device supplied (oral syringe/cup) to measure the dose accurately. Can be taken with or after food if the child has a sensitive stomach.

Infants aged 3 months and over who weigh more than 5 kg and children up to 12 years. Do not give to babies under 3 months or under 5 kg.

Before using the medicine, shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the suspension is evenly mixed.

Dosing guidance (approximate by age/weight):

3–6 months (≥5 kg): A small dose appropriate for weight, typically given up to 3 times in 24 hours.

6–12 months: Dose measured for age and given up to 3–4 times in 24 hours.

1–4 years: Dose for age up to 3–4 times in 24 hours.

4–7 years: Dose for age up to 3–4 times in 24 hours.

7–12 years: Dose for age up to 3–4 times in 24 hours.

Important instructions:

Short-term use only.

Leave at least 4 hours between doses.

Do not give more than the recommended number of doses –

  • 24 hours in babies aged 3–6 months (unless advised by a doctor).

  • 3 days in children aged 6 months and over.

Side Effects & Warnings

Although most children tolerate ibuprofen well when taken at recommended doses, some may experience side effects such as skin reactions (rash, itching, swelling), gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain).

If a serious reaction occurs (for example, difficulty breathing, severe rash, persistent vomiting or a severe allergic responses), please STOP using the medicine and seek medical advice immediately from your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not give this medicine if your child:

  • Has a known allergy to ibuprofen, aspirin, other NSAIDs, or any ingredients.
  • Has a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding disorders.
  • Is dehydrated or seriously unwell.
  • Is under 3 months old or weighs less than 5 kg.

Before use, seek medical advice if the child:

  • Has asthma, liver or kidney problems, heart conditions, or other chronic illnesses.
  • Is taking other medications that may interact with ibuprofen.
  • Is dehydrated or has signs of infection.

Age Restrictions

Not suitable for children under 3 months of age or under 5 kg.

Other Medicines & Conditions

Do not use or consult a doctor if you are taking:

  • Other ibuprofen-containing products or NSAIDs.
  • Aspirin above 75 mg per day.
  • Anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin).
  • Diuretics.
  • Blood pressure medicines.
  • Methotrexate, lithium, corticosteroids.
  • Certain antidepressants (SSRIs).
  • Quinoline antibiotics.
  • Medicines for heart conditions or organ transplant rejection.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

  • Do not use during the last 3 months of pregnancy
  • Use during the first 6 months only if advised by a doctor.
  • Ibuprofen may impair female fertility (reversible).
  • Ibuprofen passes into breast milk in very small amounts and is unlikely to harm the infant, but medical advice is recommended.

Storage
